At Ecojustice, we know that people and the planet will need us for many years to come, and leaving a legacy gift is a powerful way to show your support for our vision of a brighter earth. Working with Ecojustice and your financial advisor, there are many ways that you can plan to leave a legacy of care for the natural world and support Ecojustice’s work in the future.
In addition to leaving a gift in your will, other ways you can plan your legacy include:
You can designate Ecojustice as the sole or partial beneficiary of your Registered Retirement Savings Plan or Registered Retirement Income Fund to make a gift outside of your will and avoid probate fees owed by your estate. Your estate will also receive a charitable tax receipt for the value of the gift – which can help leave more behind for the loved ones you’ve named in your will.
To make this gift, simply request a Change of Beneficiary form from the financial institution that manages your fund and use our full legal name: Ecojustice Canada Society.
An annuity is a financial product that pays out a fixed stream of payments to an individual, primarily used as an income stream for retirees. A gift plus annuity arrangement allows you to make an immediate significant contribution to Ecojustice, while also providing you with a guaranteed stream of income.
To make a gift plus annuity to Ecojustice, the minimum contribution is $13,000 and can be made in cash or securities. A portion of this will be a donation, and the remainder is used to purchase an annuity through an insurance company. You may choose a commercial insurance company or broker to work with, or in consultation with you, Ecojustice may obtain and provide you with quotations from qualified insurance companies or brokers.
This type of gift allows you to donate today and receive an immediate charitable tax receipt. By transferring the property (such as cash or securities) into a trust managed by a trustee and naming Ecojustice as the irrevocable remainder beneficiary, you can use or receive income from that property during your lifetime and the remainder will be transferred to Ecojustice when the trust terminates – either after a prescribed period of time or upon your death.
We are proud to be funded by individuals like you who share our values.
We make it easy for you to make a gift of life insurance that will help Ecojustice build the case for a better earth, while also providing tax savings for you or your estate and allowing you to make a gift outside of your will that will avoid probate fees.
By making Ecojustice the beneficiary of your life insurance policy, your estate will benefit from a charitable tax receipt for the value of the proceeds from the policy – which can leave more behind for the loved ones you’ve named in your will.
Thank you for considering Ecojustice as your partner in creating an environmental legacy that will allow us to use the power of the law to defend nature, combat climate change, and fight for a healthy environment for all.
