I’m Leonard, Chair of Ecojustice’s Board of Directors, and this Giving Tuesday I want to join forces with you to combat climate change. Donate to Ecojustice within the next 24 hours and I will match your donation, dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000.

The devastating wildfires that raged in the Arctic, California, and B.C. this past summer and fall have been my visceral wake-up call to the urgency of taking action on climate change now. People and communities that experienced fire are still recovering. Many more were impacted by smoke fallout, which is harmful to human health. These fires will get worse in the future unless we act now to mitigate climate change.

Ecojustice is doing just that. From working hard to ensure B.C. has strong, enforceable laws to reduce greenhouse gas pollution to holding the Ontario government to account for unlawfully dismantling its climate change legislation, Ecojustice is using the power of the law to combat climate change.

Today, you can double your impact and help Ecojustice take even more bold legal action to fight climate change.

I came of age in a Jewish-American family during the civil rights movement, when landmark legal victories paved the way for social change. Hard-fought lawsuits ended segregation in public schools and struck down state laws banning interracial marriage. As with defending civil rights, the law is a powerful tool for protecting the environment. It’s a tool Ecojustice leverages to deliver concrete results.

As board chair, I saw firsthand how Ecojustice’s legal strategy was critical to defeating the Trans Mountain pipeline — a project that would take us in the wrong direction on climate change and jeopardize the health of our communities — in court.

My holiday wish is for Canadians, like you and me, to work together with urgency and resolve to mitigate climate change. Making a gift to Ecojustice is a great place to start.

The Ecojustice team never backs down from a big challenge, but they depend on us to make sure they can take on the toughest environmental fights — and win.

Please, join the legal fight to safeguard our climate by donating to Ecojustice today.
