Prime Minister Carney’s first budget is putting Canada on the wrong track to tackle the environment and affordability crisis. We must act swiftly to protect the hard-fought wins we’ve achieved and remind him that you can’t prosper on a dead planet.

As per their most recent budget, the feds intend to move at a “speed and scale not seen in generations”, including by fast-tracking a list of what are being called “Nation Building Projects” – but reads more like a fossil fuel industry executive’s Christmas list.

But that’s not all. Our Prime Minister is also going after hard-won greenwashing protections.

Not long ago, the law did not require companies to do their due diligence before claiming their business was benefitting the environment. Just last year, that changed when the federal government introduced changes that strengthened the Competition Act. In response, major big oil players removed entire webpages outlining their climate commitments. Over 90 per cent of Canadians support the anti-greenwashing laws that made this possible and protect us from the dangerous disinformation campaigns run by industry.

But Carney is proposing to weaken them, and if he has his way, Big Oil could be right back to their old tricks, digging up our chances at a livable planet, wrapping it all up in a nice green bow and selling it back to us as the next “climate solution”.

Send your letter to Prime Minister Carney, key cabinet members, MPs and critics urging them to keep hard-won robust greenwashing protections in place.
