Kate is a lawyer who holds an LLB from UBC and an LLM from Columbia University. She clerked for Justice La Forest at the Supreme Court of Canada and then practiced law with Heenan Blaikie for many years in administrative law areas, including labour, employment, and human rights. She also worked with governments and government bodies drafting policy and regulations. She has taught law at UBC since 1998. She chaired the governing body for emergency medical assistants and first responders in the province for 10 years. She sits on the board of Homestead Land Holdings Limited. She has sat on other not-for-profit boards. Kate is also actively involved in the governance of a three-generation family business.
Kate loves the outdoors and shares this love with her family and friends. While she lives in Vancouver, she spends her summers on a farm in Ontario. She joined the Ecojustice board to ensure that her children’s children will have the chance to explore the nature and outdoors we experience today.
