“You can credit my parents for my interest in nature,” says Jeanine Lucas. One of Ecojustice’s very first supporters and a member of our Monthly Defenders Club and Legacy Community, Jeanine has made a donation every year for the last 25 years and arranged for a gift to Ecojustice in her will to support future generations. But her care and concern for the natural world go back much farther than that.
Growing up in BC during the ‘40s and ‘50s, Jeanine remembers camping with her family and being woken up to see the Northern Lights. An avid hiker and camper, she’s seen the environment change considerably during her lifetime. Jeanine remembers the wide-scale logging on Vancouver Island during her childhood.
Jeanine’s care for family and nature runs deep. When her nephew passed away from cancer, she honoured his love of spending time in nature camping with his family by making a donation in his memory to Ecojustice.
Jeanine follows her own advice by supporting Ecojustice and one of our clients, the Sierra Club of BC, beacuase we go to court to protect our air, water, and wildlife. She made the choice, back in 1993, to join our Monthly Defenders Club. She encourages others to join her, “I feel it demonstrates my long-term commitment to the environment – and it was easy to do!”
