April is Earth Month — a time to take action for a thriving planet and healthier communities. It’s also a time to reflect on how together we can protect our environment for future generations.

Earth Month culminates on Earth Day, April 22, which is the largest global movement for the environment — with over a billion people participating each year.

At Ecojustice we believe that real change happens when people come together. Systemic change is crucial to achieve environmental justice, but we should not underestimate the power of collective action and community.

Together we can protect vulnerable species, stop climate chaos and build healthy communities for all.

Join us in making a difference this Earth Month by taking part in activities that support environmental justice and sustainability.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

1. Organize a community clean up

Gather your neighbours for a clean-up event to reduce plastic pollution and beautify your local spaces. Would you prefer to join an existing clean up? Organizations like Ocean Wise collect data from clean ups to inform policies against plastic pollution.

2. Host an item swap

Reduce consumption and promote a more circular economy by swapping your unwanted clothes, books, and household items with friends, family or colleagues. This helps minimize waste and gives a new life to items you no longer need. Make sure to donate any items left over, to avoid them going to landfill.

3. Connect with nature

Take time to appreciate what we’re striving to protect and get outside. Hike your favourite trail, go camping, explore a wetland, or try forest bathing! Spending time outdoors strengthens your connection to the planet at inspires continued action.

4. Donate to an environmental cause

Earth Month is the perfect time to give back to mother nature with a donation to a environmental organization.

Ecojustice is 100% donor-funded, meaning your support fuels all our legal battles for environmental justice. This Earth month, all donations will be matched by our generous Earth Month Matchmakers. So, give now and your support will have double the impact.

5. Support local pollinators

Our precious pollinators are in decline due to toxic pesticide use, and we’re fighting for stricter pesticide regulations in Canada. You can help too — plant native, pollinator friendly flowers and herbs. No garden? A small pot on a window sill or balcony works just as well.

6. Stay informed

Knowledge is power. Educate yourself this Earth Month on environmental justice issues and keep up with the latest environmental news in Canada.

Sign up for our emails, and we’ll keep you posted on Ecojustice’s critical work, timely opportunities to act, and the latest environmental issues from coast to coast to coast. Become an insider today.

7. Take care of yourself

The fight for environmental justice will not happen overnight. To stay engaged make sure to prioritize your own wellbeing. Whether it’s meditating, exercising, or simply taking a break, self-care ensures you have the energy to keep making a difference.

No action is too small. When we come together, we can protect vulnerable species, stop climate chaos and build healthy communities for us all.
